Cropping a movie clip

This page will tell you how to crop a movie clip, which basically means to remove the excess frames either side of the desired footage. To do this you need to use the "Edit Clip" feature.

To access the "Edit Clip" utility you need to click on the "Edit" button at the bottom-left of FadeToBlack, just under the preview window as shown in the below diagram.

The screen should then show the "Edit Clip" feature on the right hand side of the screen as shown in the next diagram.

You will also notice the frame position slider contains a solid blue bar. This is to reflect the portion of the movie clip that you have selected.

On the "Edit Clip" screen (on the right-hand side of the screen) you should see the area used for cropping. The below diagram shows you what you should be looking at.

This contains two closely placed sliders, one on top of the other. The top slider specifies the beginning of the clip ("First Frame"), whilst the other specifies the end of the clip ("End Frame"). You need to move each slider to the position at which you wish to crop the movie clip. You can also use the input boxes provided to enter frame number or use the up/down cursors, or page up/down buttons, as you do when using the main frame position slider to navigate about the clip.

You can also navigate to the position you wish to crop at by using the main frame position slider, and the pressing one of the synchronising buttons at the right (not left) side of the crop sliders.

Now you have two choices. You can either click "Apply" which will crop the current movie clip and remove any frames not in the range you selected, or you can click "Copy" which will copy the section you selected to a new clip.
You also have the option to start over again, by clicking the "Reset" button, or abandoning your crop by clicking the "Cancel" button.
